District Description

Highline School District is a mid-sized public school district headquartered in Burien, Wash. It serves more than 18,000 students in grades kindergarten through 12 in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, Boulevard Park, and White Center. It has 39 schools, employs over 2,000 staff members, and offers a wide variety of educational opportunities from early childhood to college preparation.

Two Highline schools, Midway Elementary School and Cascade Middle School, were selected to help develop a blended-learning model that can be scaled up in schools across the Puget Sound region. The Puget Sound Educational Service District (PSESD) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are helping to sponsor the work. The two schools will work closely with four other schools in King and Pierce Counties to identify best practices when using blended learning to augment in-class learning.
