School Description

The Great Oaks Charter School of New York City (GO-NYC), a 6-12 school at full implementation, opened with its first 6th grade class in Fall 2013. The school’s model is inspired by the Match Education charter schools in Boston and employs the same successful culture of high expectations, parent engagement, and dedicated tutoring corps. GO-NYC has an at-risk preference in its lottery to ensure that at least 25% of the students admitted in the 6th grade each year are English Language Learners (ELL). Its academic model involves teacher-led lessons, sustained tutoring sessions, and customized online content.

Program Model

Program Model: Individual Rotation

Model Description
GO-NYC’s curriculum is based around the Kunskapsskolan USA Learning Portal. Students move through the content at their own pace. To reenforce certain concepts, an experienced teacher will lead students through rigorous and interesting lessons in a group setting. These teacher-led lessons are augmented by at least two hours of personalized tutoring every day for every student. This model allows for students to receive both personalized learning and personal attention.
