District Description

Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) is not like any district in the United States; it is on track to becoming a “Full Service Community School District.” OUSD works with students and families in order to guarantee each student an excellent learning experience and physical and mental health care. As part of the district’s comprehensive vision to ensure “Every Student Thrives,” OUSD also offers housing, parenting, language, and employment support to parents. Because OUSD collaborates with the California Office to Reform Education (CORE), a nonprofit that has a holistic view of school improvement, OUSD is one of 10 districts in California that has received a waiver to NCLB policy.
