School Description

Northwest Liberty School (NWLS) is a mostly online private high school that supports students in private and public schools in the State of Washington. Although the school has some fully enrolled students who graduate with a degree from NWLS, 98 percent of its students are full-time public school students looking to recover credits, graduate on time, or take an additional course not offered at the school in which they are enrolled. Since opening its doors in SY2007-08, the school has served more than 2,300 students in more than 6,000 courses (not all online, however).

Program model: A La Carte

Model description
Students take one or more courses online, mostly as supplements to their face-to-face courses at brick-and-mortar schools. The school has a brick-and-mortar learning center where students can work on their online courses and receive as-need help from a certified teacher, who serves as the teacher-of-record. The learning center is open on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. School administrators initially encourage students to spend at least three hours per day, three days per week at the learning center; once a student has proven that he is capable of learning independently, however, school administrators tend to relax those expectations and guidelines and give the student control over where and when he learns.
