Private or Independent School Network Overview

Private or Independent School Network Description
The Northeastern Regional Information Center (NERIC) is a cooperative services agency that facilitates shared services between school districts in northeastern New York. This blended-learning initiative builds off of previous e-learning collaborations within the region. Seven high schools received grant funding from the New York State Department of Education to develop four virtual Advanced Placement (AP) courses that would leverage a teacher-of-record in one district to teach students in multiple districts within the seven-school consortium. The intent of this initiative is to: 1) offer new AP courses within area high schools; 2) engage participation from low-income students who tend to not participate in college-prep coursework; 3) improve achievement levels by offering AP classes in a different model; and 4) expose students to a new technology-infused, college ready model of learning that requires more student self-direction and independence.
