School Description

Da Vinci Communications is Da Vinci Schools’ first college and high school hybrid school. Students have the opportunity to engage in college-level curriculum via community college courses and have the option of extending their high school experience to a fifth year. The school opened in 2013 serving 9th-grade students; starting in the 2014-15 school year, it will serve 134 9th and 10th graders. The school projects it expansion will follow at the same rate, one new grade-level served per year until it hits the 13th grade level. Da Vinci Communications has received broad support from organizations like NGLC, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Grumann, the Hewlett Foundation, and Chevron.

Program model: A La Carte

Model description
Da Vinci Schools collaborates with California community colleges to allow its students to participate in college-level courses within the structure of the Da Vinci Schools support system. The A La Carte courses complement the time students spend offline engaging in project-based learning or working in practical environments like internships or labs. Students spend 30-50 percent of their time online, 30-50 precent of their time on dynamic project-based learning, and 20 percent of their time on a practicum in labs or internships.
