School Overview
|
School Description
Only 10 miles from the Canadian border, Coventry Village School is located in the Northeast Kingdom of rural Vermont. The school provides educational services for nearly 100 students, the majority of which claim French ancestry. With such a strong French influence, Coventry desired to offer foreign language programs for many years, but the cost and difficulty of recruiting foreign language teachers prevented the school from doing so. By partnering with the Vermont World Language Initiative, a blended-learning program sponsored by Middlebury College, Coventry was able to begin offering online French courses in 2013.

Program model: Flex
Model description
Students engage in online French courses with an individualized structure within the brick-and-mortar school. The on-site teachers, though not formally trained in French, receive professional development in order to support the online learning by providing face-to-face support as-needed. The online courses form the basis of learning while the teachers facilitate various activities to supplement the courses and provide enrichment opportunities through community experiences.
